Cold and wet but still beautiful

Copenhagen – Tallinn (Estonian Air)
I left a windy and wet Copenhagen airport at 9.40 am hoping for better weather in Tallinn. Arrived in Tallinn just after 12.00 after an uneventful flight, but no luck with the weather. It’s quite cold and very wet (supposedly 18C but that’s hard to believe ... maybe 14C).
I’d booked a transfer to the hotel – it’s lovely to have someone waiting there holding up your name card when you arrive in a new city. The Hotel Shnelli (starting hotel for the tour) is in a great location, it’s a very short walk to Tallinn’s Medieval Old Town. If my room was on the good side of the hotel I’d have a view towards the old town, but no, I have a view of the train station at the back and some derelict old buildings.
The old town area is a UNESCO World Heritage site. With my raincoat on I set off to explore the winding cobblestone streets. The area is full of wonderful old buildings, towers and churches. Despite the bad weather it was also full of tourists. I wandered around for over three hours, and feeling very cold and wet decided to head back to the hotel. I had missed lunch so I stopped at a coffee shop on the way back for coffee and cake. The array of beautiful mouth-watering cakes was good, and inexpensive – Estonia could be a disaster for my waistline.
Here’s a few photos of Tallinn, unfortunately on a miserable day. I’m here for another two days, so hoping for better weather to further explore the old town – there’s still a lot more to see. Maybe I’ll even tackle those stairs in the last photo.
